Why Outdoor Swimming?

A Broken Foot & Doctor's Orders

It all started when I broke my left foot while quarantining at home with Covid.

Months would pass and lots of ongoing pain.

And after 8 weeks in a moon boot and weeks more in an orthotic shoe, I was still hobbling, badly.

Enter the Doctor, who suggested swimming, to avoid the nasty onset of osteonecrosis (yes, it’s as bad as it sounds).

It all meant I resumed swimming after a 40 year break, and like many, my skin simply doesn’t agree with the chlorine of the local pool.

So a broken foot sparked an obsession with ocean swimming which has grown into curiosity about the tribes who swim together – forming the idea for this podcast.
