The Back Story

A Passion Project That Continues To Grow

The Blue Room Podcast is a passion project hosted and produced by Sabra Lane.

Created in 2025, the Pod celebrates the joy of outdoor swimming, the tribes we swim with and the incredible sense of community it creates.

Now it continues to grow into much more.

A Podcast. The Podcast Book due sometime in 2027. Swimming Caps. And this website.

The Blue Room has become a place to help others discover the joy of swimming in the outdoors.

Importantly, it’s a platform that helps swimmers connect with each other and find swim groups at home, or when travelling throughout Australia.

Meet Your Host

Hi, I'm Sabra

Journalist. Swimmer. Tasmaniac. Podcaster

I used to swim as a teenager growing up in the Murray River town of Mildura and was quite good at it.

But gave it away once I went to uni (insert a long and rewarding journalism career here).

However, I became utterly hooked to ocean swimming in my 50s, after a doctor recommended swimming to recover from a terrible foot injury.

Not only did I become addicted to ocean swimming, but craved the collective, shared joy in the tribes I swims with in Hobart (much to the disgust of her loyal Burmese cat, Zelly).

After dropping-in at a number of beautiful beaches around Tassie, I devised a plan for a podcast, and my swim sister, Julia Mansour, suggested the name – The Blue Room.
