Spring and the Weedy Seadragons

September brings warmer water and longer days in Hobart. The Weedy Seadragons celebrated with an adventure swim.

It’s now mid-September, and the water in Hobart is warming up. Already it’s 12 degrees celsius, up from the coolest reading during winter of eight degrees.

To celebrate the lenghtening days, and warmer temperatures, my regular swim group the Weedy Seadragons had an adventure swim to Conningham beach, which is about 30 minutes drive south of Hobart. We were so lucky with the weather.

I took my GoPro along (always a bit tricky, as there is no easy way to ‘store’ it while swimming) and snapped some of the amazing wonderland below the surface. Beautiful seagrasses, a sea horse and nudibranch. It’s always a bit tricky taking photographs, as you don’t want to be still for too long – especially without a wetsuit.

And afterwards, a delcious coffee made with a gas-camping stove, some fried Haloumi and other shared goodies.

Happy Swimming!
