What do you think of when I say ‘The Yarra’? It’s also known as the Birrung River. It’s about 240km long, it starts at about Mt Baw Baw and winds its way through Victoria and Melbourne and into Port Phillip Bay.

One of the top questions asked when I put “Yarra River” into Google is: are there crocs in the River?

There might be some plastic, discarded Crocs… but definitely not the fanged-kind.

Four kilometres upstream from Melbourne’s central business district, there’s a place on the Yarra called “Deep Rock”. And this is where the Yarra Yabbies get into the river for their daily dip.

And recently, the Yabbies were kind enough to allow me to join them for a swim, and record an episode of The Blue Room afterwards – about why they swim. It was a moody and beautiful Melbourne morning. The podcast will drop later today. But I thought I’d post some pictures here of my time with the tribe. You can also find their group listing on the website, if you’re keen to give it a go.

And why not? Don’t judge until you try… afterall, joy is rebellion!

Keep smiling and swimming.
